The International Center For Democracy (ICD) and the New York Guyanese Diaspora condemn in the strongest terms the misguided remarks that was made by Congressman Hakeem Jeffries at a recent public forum.  Congressman Jeffries has repeatedly made unfounded statements that suggest that the Government of Guyana discriminates against a section of the society. We call on the Congressman to retract his racially divisive statement immediately. The Congressman must know that such irresponsible statements only serve racist forces who wish to divide the Guyanese community in New York and in Guyana.  The Guyanese Diaspora also demand that Congressman Jeffries do the right thing and publicly apologize to all Guyanese and to set an example and desist from making racist comments.

Furthermore, the International Center For Democracy and the New York Guyanese Diaspora demand that the United States Congress and the House Ethics Committee  launch a meaningful investigation into Mr. Jeffries racially laden comments. His false comments leave an indelible stain on the United States Congress.
