Statement made by Orthodox community is rejected.
Update: May 13 2022
Im glad the hackney gazette has highlighted this but the statement made by orthdox community is completely meaningless
Rabbi gluck and the pinter foundation stated blackface is unacceptable on purim , yet a quick google image search of 'Purim blackface' shows this worldwide every year on Purim and for decades too. I believe the rabbi is aware of this too and so their statement has no weight, or authenticity.
I'm still pushing for a yet to be made formal apology from the orthodox community to the Black community. The statement made by the rabbi is rejected as blackface on purim is not an isolated event and a statement is not good enough and is not a formal apology.
I met with the council alongwith the girls who recoreded this video and they were full of excuses as to why they havent said anything publicly.
Hackney council condemned the blackface silently and told hackney gazette not to publish the video or picture of where this was recorded by the young girls because the blackface was by a child not an adult. Which is complete nonsense as purim in this community is for their children.
Shame on you @hackneycouncil @mayorofhackney for your cowardly silence and handling of this racist event. You are also complicit.
The double standards and hypocrisy from the community shows their arrogance and superiority and power they have to not even get criminal proceeding against them. However they should know better, being the most persecuted people in history.
On a positive, arrangements are being made to meet with Orthodox leaders, alonside the girls who recorded and myself. Including interlink, Rabbi gluck and Shomrim.
Thank you Hackney gazette for reporting this article. I will continue to escalate. And thank you for supporters who are signing, and sharing. Please continue to do and build momentum.
Danika.
