Saving Rosebud West

In less than 24 hours we have received over 80 endorsements to our petition. This is a strong sign that the proposed name change is against the general interest of our community. The people behind the campaign to change the name of our town claim to have over 90% support for the name change. Living and working in our community I believe this is a complete lie. Of the people I speak to in the street and online I would estimate less than 20% of our community would actively support a name change. The evident lack of support of the name change leads me to believe the figures that have been delivered to council are fictitious at best. The cost of surveying the community will be in excess of $15K, money which can be better spent on things that will actually improve our community. The proposal has been lodged by a small group of retirees, who have lots of time on their hands to make their case. Unfortunately I am one person, I work 80 hours a week in my own local business and do not have a lot of time to fight this fight. But I am passionate about the cause and feel it is important for us all to step up now and save our town. At this stage the only people who have delivered a firm case to council are those proposing the change, they have provided biased and misleading information to council which council are likely to move on. Unless WE AS A COMMUNITY take action, the couple of people driving this campaign will be successful and our town will be forever changed. I genuinely believe the proposed change will have a negative impact on our town, our tourism, our services, our businesses and most importantly our people. If we do not make some noise now we will have to live with the consequences. Thank you for signing the petition, but there is more you can do, and we need your help! 1.
