Richard Goodwin Speaks About His Journey Through the Pain of Losing Little Hemi

Richard Goodwin is speaking about his journey through the grief and pain of losing his precious grandson, little Hemi Goodwin-Burke.  Richard is Kerri-Ann’s dad and responsible for running Hemi’s legacy on Facebook for the family of this beautiful little baby who was taken. Under a picture of little Hemi on Hemi’s Facebook page ‘Justice For Hemi’, Richard asks, “will you speak up for me?”  It is with Richard’s consent that we share this story with you as part of Hemi’s story for the petition that we and Justice for Hemi hope will save lives and bring justice for children who have been abused and murdered. Part One In writing this I never had any briefings with any legal person/s involved in Hemis case. I am the forgotten victim in this. I am his grandparent and as such kept out of the loop. What is written here is what I could glean from others. Hemi Les Goodwin Burke Born- 23/09/2013 Died- 26/03/2015 Weight 11.32kg Height 83.5cms Hair shoulder length dark brown curly Teeth 6 upper jaw 6 lower jaw Complexion light brown Eyes Dark brown Normal healthy toddler …Incident at 5 MacArthur Street Moranbah Qld. 25/03/2015. …1am QAS officers are called to above address to attend to Hemi who had allegedly fallen and sustained head injuries and was in cardiac arrest. Hemi was transported to Moranbah Hospital. After resuscitation breathing was restored. Due to the severe head trauma Hemi was airlifted to Townsville Hospital ICU. Examination of Hemi showed no brain function, his brain had significant swelling. I believe for all intents and purposes Hemi at this point was already deceased. There was nothing the medical staff could do except keep him on life support so his family could come and say goodbye. .. During their examination of Hemi the medical staff noted numerous bruises over his entire body. .. Injuries noted were Total Bruises – 78 How do you get that many bruises on such a little body? ..Head and Neck 25 in total. Bruising on his forehead his chin his lips his jaw his neck and the rear of his head. Then there is the big fracture to the rear of his head and a large subdural haematoma. ..Torso Total bruises 32. Bruising to his chest his abdomen his back and a fractured rib. ..Left Limbs Total bruises 9. Bruising to forearm his shoulder his hip his knee his shin. Right Limbs Total bruises 12. Bruising to his hand his wrist his arm his elbow his thigh his hip his shin. Adrenal glands injured. What sort of force is required to make an adrenal gland haemorrhage? Answer -moderate to severe force. …During all of this Hemis family was unaware of the horrors inflicted on their little guy. Hemis parents were in Brisbane getting specialist medical treatment for his mum. Only one other family member was there at 5 MacArthur Street when Hemi was being attacked, his 3 year old sister. She saw her brother being assaulted and was assaulted herself as witnessed by the very large bruising and swelling to her forehead that I noticed after I picked her up from the Moranbah Police Station on the 25/03/2015. When I saw the bruising I asked [her] who did it and she replied without hesitation “Matt”.  Typical of Matthew Irelands character he initially attempted to blame [a toddler] for Hemis injuries, saying she caused his injuries by hitting Hemi with a chair. He was soon caught out on that lie and from then on for him, it was just one giant arse covering exercise playing the cooperative remorseful killer in an attempt to mitigate any future court proceedings. ..I was the first family member to find out what had happened to our little man and had the horrible task of informing the family.
