A Heartbreaking Letter From Hemi's Father

A LETTER FROM A BEAUTIFUL, GENTLE LOVING FATHER SEEKING ANSWERS. WE WANT ANSWERS TOO: Dear Yvette D'ath, Thank you for you're offices response. Although I believe this matter is deserving of your attention it is great to finally see some sort of response. Firstly I'd like to know if you have looked into Hemi's case? If you haven't,could you please do so? I'd like to know once you have looked into Hemi's case. If you agree with the dropping of the torture charge? The information we have is that Hemi was beaten over a 10 hour period prior to his death. We have learnt this after watching a video of the detectives and the perpetrator walking through our home stating when and where he inflicted the various injurys subsequently found on Hemi's body. So the question is why was the torture charge not followed through? My next question again can only be answered after reviewing the case. Why did the murder charge get downgraded to Manslaughter? The crown informed us that it would be difficult to prove intent. Difficult not impossible. Why did they not try? Was it because of the costs affiliated with going to trial? Was it because central Queenslands' DPP are swamped with cases and they simply didnt have the time or resources to take this to trial? Why wasn't another form of murder used? Such as reckless murder? Two other things I'd like to talk about are the sentence given and not applying for no parole using the violent offender laws we have in place. The sentence given in no way reflects the crime committed. Again the video we watched showed the offender admitting to kicking Hemi like a foot ball, punching him,picking him up by his throat, picking him up and squeezing him hard enough for instant bruising to occur(possibly shaking Hemi at the same time),pushing hemi down so hard in his cot that internal organs were ruptured and the poor boy deficated him self. These are just some of the things we know took place and all occurred before he pulled Hemi with such force his brain stem was severed. My question again do you believe in Hemi's case the right sentence was handed down? We also have laws that remove parole for violent offenders. Why wasn't it used in this case? We believe a just and more acceptable outcome could have been obtained if these things were looked at. And pursued to the full extent of the law. We have the laws, we have the ability to apply them but for some reason we did not. Please help us if not for Hemi. For the next victim. Please review Hemi's case so we can find out where the system is failing. Only then can we seek to remedy these floors and bring our justice system inline with community expectations.
