On February 2, 2019 the Greenwood Shrine Club in South Carolina hosted  a squirrel trophy hunt event.

Hundreds of wild squirrels will be killed as contestants are urged to kill as many as 10 per individual and 20 per a team of 2. The animals that aren’t killed instantly will be maimed and brutally injured leaving them to suffer an agonizing death. This is mating season and many female squirrels are already pregnant and nesting. Contestants are also urged to shoot the largest squirrels for more points so they will be targeting the pregnant females.
