The Issue

Every single day, millions of animals suffer behind closed doors. They are confined, abused, discarded, or killed simply because they are considered “useless.” This isn’t rare — it’s routine. And it’s happening right here in the United States.

One of the most shocking examples is the egg industry. Each year, billions of newborn male chicks are killed — many ground up alive in industrial machines or suffocated in bags — all because they cannot lay eggs. It is cruelty on a scale most people can’t even imagine.

But it does not have to be this way. Germany and France have already banned the mass killing of male chicks, adopting new technology that ends this horrific practice. The U.S. is lagging behind — and animals are paying the price.

Imagine if this were done to your pets — the animals you love and consider family. Heartbreaking, isn’t it? And yet, this is the reality for countless farm animals every day.

The Animal Legal Defense Fund has documented rising cases of animal cruelty nationwide. Weak laws and weak enforcement mean industries can continue these practices unchecked. That must end.

We don’t need everyone to stop eating animal products. But we do need lawmakers to act. We need stronger protections, harsher penalties for abusers, and a commitment to ending the most extreme forms of cruelty — starting with chick culling and extending across factory farms.

Other countries have proven it’s possible. The U.S. has no excuse. Sign this petition and demand change now. Together, we can expose the cruelty and replace it with compassion.
