Dogs are being forced into brutal fights where they tear each other apart while people gather to watch, gamble, and profit from the violence. Inside crude wooden “pits,” dogs are placed face-to-face and forced to attack until one collapses, is too injured to continue, or dies from their wounds. Some fights can last for hours, leaving animals with puncture wounds, broken bones, severe blood loss, and crushing injuries.
Behind these fights is a world of organised cruelty. Dogs are often chained in isolation, starved, injected with drugs, and forced to train on treadmills or in water to build endurance for fighting. Animals that refuse to fight or lose are frequently discarded or killed. Other vulnerable animals — including stolen pets, kittens, and rabbits — may be used as “bait” to train fighting dogs, their mouths taped shut so they cannot defend themselves.
Dogfighting is illegal in many countries, including the UK and the United States, yet it continues to operate in secret and is often linked to illegal gambling, drug activity, and organised crime. In the United States alone, it is estimated that around 16,000 dogs are killed every year as a result of dogfighting.
Sign the petition if you believe dogfighting must be eradicated everywhere and that those responsible for organising, participating in, or profiting from these brutal fights must face the strongest penalties possible. No animal should ever be forced to suffer for entertainment or profit.
