I am writing this from the Philippines. I have just stopped after a roadside arrest and rescue operation to send this message because what I saw cannot wait.
Two dogs, Bayani and Lakbay, were recovered alive after being found stuffed inside sealed canvas sacks. The sacks were tightly closed, restricting air and movement. They were left in conditions where suffocation and death were imminent.
We arrested an individual for animal cruelty at the scene. Bayani and Lakbay were being held for illegal slaughter.
Confining living dogs in sealed sacks is a deliberate method that causes panic, oxygen deprivation, and extreme physical distress. They survived only because intervention happened when it did.
I have seen many cruelty cases, but this one is clear and severe. Bayani and Lakbay experienced intentional acts that placed their lives at immediate risk.
An arrest has been made, but that is only the beginning. What matters now is whether this case is fully prosecuted and whether the strongest penalties allowed by law are applied.
