Because of that pressure, the next operation targeting a dog slaughterhouse in the Philippines is now moving forward, and we are currently awaiting final police authorisation.
At Animal Welfare Investigations Project, we investigate and disrupt organised animal cruelty. In the last 12 months, we have built the largest informant network in the Philippines.
No other organisation has the intelligence reach, operational capacity, or enforcement relationships we do. That is why action leads to results.
But while enforcement decisions are being made, the cruelty does not pause.
Dogs are still being captured off the streets — many of them strays, others believed to be pets. They are transported long distances without food or water.
Their legs are tied behind their backs to stop them moving, Friend. Their snouts are forced into steel cans to prevent barking or biting.
The stress is so severe that nearly half of the dogs die before they even reach their destination.
Those who do not survive the journey are still processed. Dead dogs are handled alongside live ones.
Dogs are clubbed, their throats are cut, their fur is scorched off, and their bodies are dismembered, purely for meat.
As Christmas approaches, this cruelty accelerates. This is what our investigators are dealing with right now, Friend.
Public pressure has already helped push this operation forward. But while police authorisation is pending, continued scrutiny is critical.
