I’m honestly furious writing this.
A few nights ago, someone came to our partner shelter in the Philippines — a place that should be safe, peaceful, and healing for dogs rescued from cruelty and the dog meat trade — and threw fireworks towards the dogs.
Who does that, Friend?
These dogs have already survived beatings, slaughterhouses, and unthinkable fear. And some coward thought it was funny to terrify them again?
When the fireworks hit the ground, the dogs completely panicked. They were shaking, crying, scrambling to escape. A few were so terrified they broke the fencing trying to get away.
It makes me sick to my stomach even typing this, friend.
And while all this was happening, our shelter manager stayed right there with them — the same woman who refused to leave during the floods, who carried food through waist-high water, who patched tarps under storms just to keep the dogs safe.
She was calming them one by one, even while fireworks were landing near the shelter.
She never abandons these dogs.
And neither will we.
Right now, we need to make something very clear to the authorities and the community: this was unacceptable, and the shelter is not alone.
