Puppy farming is widespread throughout the UK. Reports frequently surface of puppies that have been bred in poor conditions, exposed to illness, separated prematurely from their mothers, and transported over great distances.
This situation is detrimental to both the dogs and their new owners, who often endure emotional and financial hardships as a result. Irresponsible breeders and sellers fail to safeguard the health and welfare of these animals.
Dogs are bred under intense conditions without concern for their health, and the unsold puppies are either discarded, sent back for breeding, or euthanised.
For the few that survive the initial conditions, life is often brief due to early separation from their mothers and exposure to diseases before their immune systems are mature.
The breeding dogs also suffer greatly, continuously producing litters until they are either rescued or, in many cases, euthanised.
Each year in Britain, approximately one million puppies and dogs are purchased, but only about half are from credible breeders or animal shelters. This needs to end.
