Unfortunately, during moments of natural disaster, animals are often relegated to the margins of concern, remaining largely forgotten victims.
As you read this, many are undoubtedly desperately clawing beneath the debris, while others roam through obliterated streets in a futile quest for their families – families who, tragically, have likely perished.
The devastating 6.8-magnitude quake struck southwest of Marrakech, reducing cities and villages to ruins. The tragic toll? Over 2,000 human lives lost and more than 2,000 severely injured. The count of animals in distress is beyond comprehension.
What's more, the crisis persists. Tremors of up to magnitude 4.5 continue to rattle Marrakech, heightening the risk of further building collapses and more animals becoming trapped and harmed. At this moment, we must unite to offer support to these animals who depend on us.
Rescue teams tirelessly sift through the wreckage, straining their ears for any desperate animal cries, and extracting survivors from the debris. Ill-equipped for a disaster of this magnitude, they are running perilously low on supplies.
