We have heard from the shelter manager on the ground. Her message is horrifying: “Russian soldiers give us one day to leave. Otherwise they will shoot the dogs and volunteers.”
Last night, we received an urgent appeal for help from our colleagues in Ukraine at Animal Shelter Shans in Kherson region.
We have become aware that Russian military have approached the shelter and ordered them to leave with all the animals within 24 hours.
Both the shelter manager and the animals have been warned that they are at risk of serious injury and/or death if they do not leave.
The shelter manager refuses to leave without the animals. Tonight, despite suffering herself with pneumonia without access to medication, she is with the animals in freezing cold conditions. She has told us that she will stay until the animals are safe.

During the past few days, heavy fighting and constant missile strikes have hit around the shelter. Many dogs have already died.
We cannot let anymore animals suffer and die.
