Living and breathing in a Gasfield Australian Mothers Against Gas want all families suffering health effects from coal seam gas in Queensland to be moved out of the gasfield. Sandra Bamberry and her young family live surrounded by coal seam gas wells near Tara in Queensland, Australia. Queensland has over 50,000 coal seam gas wells. 18 months ago Sandra and her family were forced to leave their home near Tara due to severe health effects from coal seam gas. For 18 months Sandra and her family lived away from the gasfield. During that time all health effects stopped. After 18 months of renting another home it became financially impossible to continue running and paying for two homes. Sandra and her family had to move back to the Gasfield near Tara. The family had been back in the gasfield for 1 month when health effects began again, such as; sore eyes, coughs, nosebleeds and stomach cramps. There is a CSG flare 7km from their family home. The monitoring systems are 10-20kms from gas infrastructure, so at 7km no air is being monitored at all. Over 250 toxins have been identified as being released from flaring including carcinogens such as benzopyrene, benzene, carbon di-sulphide (CS2), carbonyl sulphide (COS) and toluene; metals such as mercury, arsenic and chromium; sour gas with H2S and SO2; nitrogen oxides (NOx); carbon dioxide (CO2); and methane (CH4).
