Leaks found at 19 out of 96 AGL CSG wells in Camden

AGLs coal seam gas field within 200 metres of residents in south-western Sydney continues to leak methane. AGLs leak detection report for 2015 shows that 19 out of 96 wells were leaking. One "significant" (Over 50,000 ppmv methane) and Ten "major" gas leaks (10,000 – 50,000 ppmv methane). AGL's first leak detection report on the Camden Gas project, showed nine of its 95 CSG wells to be leaking when inspected in 2013. AGL's second leak detection report on the Camden Gas project, showed 11 out of 96 wells to be leaking when inspected in 2014. AGLs third leak detection report on the Camden Gas project showed 19 out of 96 wells to be leaking when inspected in 2015. These reports show that each year the number of leaks at the Camden Gas Project continues to rise. According to a CSIRO report for the NSW Chief Scientist, odourless methane poses two potential hazards: as an asphyxiant displacing oxygen needed to breath, and being flammable at sufficient concentrations. Families living in close proximity to the Camden Gas Project are suffering severe health effects such as hair loss, prolific nose bleeds that last for 20 minutes, headaches, and respiratory problems. There most recent breach was for secret political donations. AGL pleaded guilty to 11 breaches of political donation disclosure laws. AGL gave almost $100,000 to the NSW Labor and Liberal parties. This demonstrates that AGL cannot be trusted to behave properly and the complete lack of proper government supervision. AGL needs to listen to the community and close down their CSG in Camden NOW. Families should not have to live in close proximity to AGLs leaking coal seam gas wells. Families should not have to suffer health effects in their own homes.
