Stop the SLEEP Act from Becoming Law

Stop the SLEEP Act from Becoming Law
The Issue
Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins, Senator Shelley Mayer and their colleagues, are trying to pass a law that would not only affect car enthusiast alike, take away business from muffler shops during an already difficult time, but possibly influence other states to pass similar bills as well.
This act not only targets one of the most major modification done by car enthusiast, but affect motorcyclist as well. Fines could be given to places that fail to enforce inspections tightly for such modifications. Shops that solely focus and specialize in modifying or repairing exhaust would lose out on a majority of their business. I'm sure we can all agree as well, that being able to hear a vehicle, especially in such a heavily populated area like New York City, is more safe than having to peer out into the streets to see if a 2 ton vehicle is coming before crossing.
As a car enthusiast and a resident of NYC for 22 years, I try to write this without bias, but I have never experienced a plague of sound pollution in the "City that never sleeps", I've experienced more disturbance by garbage trucks at 4am and our 24/7 train systems rather than the few individuals deemed "too loud". This bill will affect the majority because of a bias that Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins and Senator Shelley Mayer have made based off a minority of individuals that have gone against the guidelines already set by the DMV in accordance to noise produced by motor vehicles. The bill is broad, unclear, and unrevised, according to current information, simple aftermarket exhaust modifications could be restricted as well.
Please help to stop the bill from being passed, these are not the problems that our resources should be focused on and absurd restrictions for a century old hobby taken on by millions of individuals alike, infringes on our freedoms and passions. Don't let individuals that are uninformed, demonize and take away from a community. Get this message through to Governor Andrew M. Cuomo, a car enthusiast like us.
