Save Educational Alliance Head Start Program at 18 and 34 Avenue D

The Issue

On May 3, 2020, Educational Alliance Program has set into motion the closure of 5 out of 6 Headstart and DOE locations. It was not discussed with the Parent Committee until after they started the formal process. Our Goal as a community of Lillian Wald is to save our community based sites. These children has endured online learning at such a young age and spent months indoors due to this Pandemic. Parents felt at ease knowing their kids had a seat for when the school doors open. While we were all quarantining the CEO of Educational Alliance - has decided to close the community based sites. They have tried to fire 11 Family Advocates in May of 2019. When the plan was put to a stop by Policy Council and the Regional office of Head Start they pushed forward with their agenda by requesting for a reduction of funding from Head Start in July of 2019 and pushing the Family Advocates out of the main building on East Broadway and into the sister sites in the projects. Now that there is no way to have these meetings in person they are moving forward at full speed. We were told that the sites are officially closed down, that’s hundreds of children without a school for September and dozens of employees about to be jobless but there is no actual approval yet so let’s stop them from getting approved.

Our community needs the help from everyone that believes these children deserve an education. Low income families deserve a school in their community and to not have to walk close to a mile with their 3 year old for an education. Please help us save what little we already have and stop the suits from stripping our communities. Let’s Save Our Head Start program in Lillian Wald Housing before August 17, 2020.
