1 de jul. de 2018 — UPDATE: Wow, we’ve obtained 5,000 signatures in the last 24 hours! Maddie's family contacted me yesterday to express their support for this petition. They are overwhelmed with gratitude for the outpouring of support made evident by the signatures. As Maddie's sister commented: "My beautiful baby sister's death shall not be in vain. Please make the change we need to see in order to prevent future tragedies like Madeline's -which could have been avoided!!" Phone calls to legislators hold more weight than emails and tweets. Tomorrow, July 2nd, will mark exactly one week since Maddie’s death. I am encouraging people to contact the Governor’s office on Monday, July 2nd by calling 518-474-8390. It literally takes 5 minutes and if you’re unsure of what to say I’ve provided a script. If you’re unable to get through, please keep trying throughout the week. Governor Andrew Cuomo script: “Hi my name is ____ and I’m calling because I would like Governor Cuomo to consider making changes to the driver’s license renewal procedures for older drivers in New York State. [feel free to insert personal experience here or specific examples of how this change would improve public safety and New York’s future.]” Thanks in advance for making the call to the governor. Many thanks for signing the petition, sharing it on social media, and providing helpful feedback. Some people have suggested that 80 years old is too late and that regular retesting should start at age 65, 70, or 75. I recognize that further discussion would need to take place to finalize the exact legislation, however my goal is to draw attention to the issue and to get a response from Albany. Thank you for your time. Let’s keep the momentum going.
