SYRACUSE, N.Y. — The parolee who died after jumping from a high-rise apartment building late Tuesday night has been identified as a level-two sex offender by the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision.
The Department of Corrections and Community Supervision identified the man as Jason Jock. The DOCCS states, "Parolee Jason Jock was being supervised in New York State for the State of Colorado for a Sexual Assault of a 13 year old... DOCCS is working with the Syracuse Police Department and cannot comment on the ongoing investigation at this time."
The offenses that led to Jock's parole date back to the early 2000's.
Police say when they responded to the scene at the Skyline Apartment complex at 753 James Street they met with New York State Parole Officers who had been investigating one of their assigned parolees. The NYS Parole Officers told Syracuse Police a man in his 30's was being taken into custody for a parole violation. During that process, the parolee, now identified as Jock, "made contact via phone to a family member" and shortly thereafter broke free from the parole officers.
After breaking free, the parole officers told police Jock ran towards an open window on the 11th floor and jumped out of it, falling to his death.
Syracuse Police say their investigation is ongoing.
