Update

I know time is looming and a lot of people have been asking me for an update on the New York State Tattoo Ink Law issue. Between Senator Carlucci and Assemblyman Zebrowski (The lawmakers who made the original bill) and Senator Boyle (Chairman of the NYS Small Business Committee who is trying to help us get changes put into effect) I have been told that everyone is quite confident that when sessions open up in January, this law should be changed pretty easily. They are working on getting new drafts finalized, as well as preemptively trying to get other assembly members and senators on board. It will still go through the appropriate channels and need to be voted on by both houses. As I've pointed out to everyone previously, this is why you should contact your local lawmakers to make sure that they understand why this is an important issue, because they are who will be voting on this. It will also go through a "comment period" where the public is encouraged to discuss any need for change in language before passing. Clearly the December 12 date for implementation of the law is our current biggest issue, as there will be local departments starting to try to enforce it on that date. I called the NYS department of health today, again, to ask if anything has been done to delay it and they said they are still waiting for word from the lawmakers to do so, however they are all under the impression that this will be what is happening. When it does, all of the county health departments will be notified individually. I spoke to assemblyman Zebrowski's office today and they said they are hoping to hear back shortly about that, and they feel confident that it will happen. I will most certainly keep everyone updated as I receive new information. Unfortunately, we've been through a couple months of simply waiting for something new to happen.
