Good Afternoon, We have been getting a lot of attention from the press in recent days so I have decided to re-open the petition. Our goals remain the same: 1. As a community we have supported the shelter for 30 years. However as we have seen the population at the shelter has changed and the growing numbers of ex-convicts and sexual offenders directly affect our quality of life. That intake policy must change. 2. We have the support of the police precincts in our area (the 17th and 13th). We must continue to report homeless encampments and non-violent issues by calling 311 or using the 311 app, and reporting ANYTHING DEEMED DANGEROUS to 911. This includes homeless in our playgrounds, approaching women and children, loitering by schools, etc. 3. The Department of Homeless services needs to provide help to the people that want and need it. The current system that is in place has put fear into homeless men who legitimately seek help. There was a murder at the shelter and we have heard from several homeless men that they are afraid to stay there. 4. Mayor de Blasio must change his policies. Public urination and defecation SHOULD NOT BE TOLERATED. This leads to encampments, disrespect to the community, and acts of lewdness that no one should see, let alone our children. We must continue to make our voices heard and push the politicians to see that we support homeless rights and welfare but we also will protect our rights to quality of life and safety. Sex Offenders and ex-convicts should not be housed in this shelter so close to many schools, day care centers, etc. Please take the time to pass this along to your friends, neighbors and community leaders. Together we can and will improve the quality of life in this great neighborhood. Stay positive and know we have already made a difference and must continue to push. Please email de Blasio and our local politicians to keep the pressure on! http://www.nyc.gov/html/static/pages/officeofthemayor/contact.shtml Thank you! Mauro Pennacchia
