In 2024, Cash Out Day was a major success with ATM companies and banks noticing a big spike in the numbers of withdrawals.

They got the message that millions of Australians do NOT want cash to disappear.

Since then, Australia's extremely profitable banks have committed to keep bank branches open (for a few years) and the government has committed to a cash mandate from 1 January 2026.
