Because of our campaign and the millions of Australians who trust and rely on cash everyday, the government is now planning to mandate cash acceptance in Australia.
Time is running out for you to have your say and make a submission to the government's Mandating Cash Acceptance consultation paper about:
- ALL governments must accept cash for licenses, charges, taxes, rates and fines.
- ALL corporations must accept cash.
- ALL landlords must accept cash for rent.
- ALL banks, credit providers and financial service providers must accept cash for insurance, fees, charges, credit repayments, debts, interest and basic essential financial products.
- ALL small businesses with a physical POS must accept cash unless they can demonstrate conclusively that the COST of cash acceptance is materially significant to their business viability.
- The upper limit of mandatory cash acceptance must be high - to ensure it covers large essential bills from utilities, landlords and lenders. Much higher than $500 and possibly $10,000.
Submissions close 14th February 2025.

Cash has to be freely circulating. There needs to be notes in pockets and change in tills for the system to be viable.
