Aggiornamento sulla petizioneAn Australian cash and banking guaranteeColes and Woolies discriminate against cash users

Hi Cash Lovers,

Public anger about Coles and Woolies actively herding us into a cashless society is growing.

By closing down checkouts that accept cash and forcing cash users to queue for limited numbers of cash terminals the supermarket giants are discriminating against people who trust and rely on cash.

Supermarket staff often ask customers: "Are you paying with cash or card?"

Card users go to the front of the line while cash users are forced to wait longer for fewer checkouts.

Cash is our legal tender. Government must now step in and mandate cash acceptance at retailers selling food and essential groceries.

This is what we want:

We call for an Australian Banking and Cash Guarantee that includes these rights:

1)      All Australians must be able to have reasonable local access to cash and full banking services.

2)      All Australians must be able to choose cash when paying for food and essentials at physical retailers.

Other nations are protecting the role of cash in their economy.

The UK has recently required banks to provide fee-free ATMs in every local community.

France mandates cash acceptance at physical retail points of sale.

Sweden has recently required banks to provide ATMs in all regions and localities.

The US Congress is considering mandating cash acceptance.

New York has already mandated cash acceptance by all physical retailers:

San Francisco introduced ‘Article 55’ in 2019: “Bricks-and-Mortar Businesses Required to Accept Cash.”

Thank you for signing my petition asking for a guaranteed right to use and access cash. Please share the link to the petition with your friends and family.
