He tenido la oportunidad de experimentar la belleza, el sabor y la resiliencia de las variedades de maíz nativo colorido en Kenia. Estas no son solo semillas para el consumo y la mejora de la nutrición, sino que también son símbolos de generaciones de herencia cultural y rica biodiversidad. Sin embargo, esta rica variedad no se refleja en nuestra comunicación digital, especialmente en el emoji de maíz 🌽 que usamos con frecuencia.

I have personally experienced the beauty, flavor and resilience of colorful heirloom maize varieties in Kenya. They are not just grains for consumption, and improved nutrition they are symbolic of generations of cultural heritage and rich biodiversity. However, this rich variety is not reflected in our digital communication, notably in the maize emoji 🌽 we frequently use.

In a world where emojis are an integral part of our online conversations, they hold a profound potential for cultural representation. It is time we acknowledge that maize, which holds a significant place in numerous cultures across the globe, is more than just this (🌽) one-color symbol. 

 

 

 

 

Esta petición busca ampliar el emoji de maíz (como se muestra arriba) para incluir una gama de colores naturales, como rojo, azul, negro, blanco, amarillo y multicolor, con el único propósito de celebrar la diversidad cultural y agrícola. This petition seeks to expand the maize emoji (as shown above) to include a range of natural colors, such as red, blue, black, white, yellow, and multi-colored, for the sole purpose of celebrating cultural and agricultural diversity. Inclusion of these various colors in our emoji keyboards not only honors traditional farming practices and supports global food sovereignty but also raises awareness of the importance of biodiversity. 

La Organización de las Naciones Unidas para la Alimentación y la Agricultura informa que alrededor del 75% de la diversidad genética de las plantas en el mundo se ha perdido desde los años 1900. Promover la rica diversidad inherente a nuestros alimentos es un pequeño pero significativo paso para contrarrestar esta preocupante tendencia.

 The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations reports that about 75% of the world's plant genetic diversity has been lost since the 1900s. Promoting the rich diversity inherent in our foods is a small but significant step in countering this unhealthy trend.

Hacemos un llamado al Consorcio Unicode y a las plataformas tecnológicas como X, Apple, Google, Microsoft y Facebook para que adopten esta importante actualización del emoji de maíz. Al colaborar para incluir una gama de colores de maíz naturales y tradicionales, pueden ayudarnos a celebrar la diversidad cultural, apoyar la soberanía alimentaria y generar conciencia sobre la importancia de la biodiversidad, todo esto dentro de nuestras conversaciones digitales cotidianas.
