Americans Want Labeled Beef
Mar 27, 2017
Perhaps you have read the headlines about the Brazil beef scandal where Federal inspectors were bribed to allow unhealthy meat to enter the food chain. Many countries have totally halted entry of beef from Brazil in the last week. http://bit.ly/2mJkTE0 European Union, China, Japan, South Africa and Mexico all jumped on the issue but some are now letting up. With reassurance from Brazil government that the meat will be safe. But the burning question is can we trust that?
NOW new issues are popping up for the meat industry in Brazil. The Brazilian Environmental Protection agency is investigating 20 packers for purchasing cattle that had been grazing on illegally deforested land in the Amazon Rain-forest.
With these continued issues comes distrust of Brazil's ability to insure the safety of the US Beef industry from Foot and Mouth Disease. Can we trust a country where inspectors have taken bribes and ranchers are deforesting and grazing illegally to have proper animal ID and not export beef from regions with FMD to the USA??
Please continue to support our efforts to get Country of Origin Labeling to give the consumer the information needed to make wise choices that support US beef industry, the environment and consumer health.
