AMERICANIZE OUR POLITICIANS - Equal Pay and Financial Transparency for Politicians

The Issue

We, the people, are deeply concerned about the disconnect between our politicians and the realities of everyday Americans. Our politicians seem to be living in a bubble, far removed from the struggles of their constituents. This is personal to us because we believe in American values; values that are being undermined by those who should be upholding them.

Our politicians earn significantly more than most Americans. In 2019, the median income of members of Congress was $174,000 annually - nearly three times the average U.S. household income, being $61,937. This disparity makes it difficult for them to understand what life is like for those earning minimum wage or struggling with financial instability. This informations source is from the Congressional Research Service & the U.S Census Bureau, we are all aware that the census is the bare minimum of fancial informations, it does not include MUCH more earnings they've received throughout the years, such as their investments, lobbying, ect.

We propose that representatives pay should match the minimum wage of the people that elected them. This would provide a tangible understanding of how food and housing costs affect their immediate communities.

Furthermore, we demand transparency regarding financial investments held by our representatives. Currently, there are no laws preventing politicians from owning stocks which can lead to conflicts of interest and further widen their disconnect from average citizens.

Lastly, we insist on a residency requirement for all representatives; that they must live in their state for at least nine month of the year. This will ensure they have FIRSTHAND knowledge about local issues and economic conditions within THEIR State.

We need our politicians to truly represent us – not just in words but also through shared experiences and understanding. Sign this petition if you agree that it's time for change!!
