ASU Students In Need of An On-Campus Store
The Issue
I am a resident on the Arizona State University, Tempe campus. I am reaching out to you because I would like to express the support of opening a small-format Target store on the Arizona State University, Tempe campus because it will benefit ASU students and the surrounding community.
Unfortunately, the convenient, on-campus Walmart store located in the Vista Del Sol Building J on Apache Blvd, closed during the summer. With a tremendous 13,000 and increasing number of students living on campus, this has negatively impacted the students and surrounding community members. Students, residents and surrounding Tempe community members consistently relied on the location to purchase basic need supplies (household, toiletry, food, etc) and academic supplies; as well as items to be utilized by student leaders and ASU staff to engage students at community events and meetings. Additionally, Upper Division residents living in the Vista and Villas complex, where the store will be located, are not required to purchase a meal plan and are in need of an on-campus location to purchase grocery items. I believe that Target can utilize this opportunity to create a store that is centrally located and is "tailored with specially curated product assortments and experiences designed to serve the students and staff, as well as local professionals and residents of the surrounding community,” as described by Target.
Ultimately, the on-campus Arizona State University experience is a huge factor for students when considering colleges. On-campus amenities creates an environment for students, especially new and current residents, in which they consider a home away from home. Not only would this opportunity increase consumer affinity and retention towards Target, and open the potential for lifelong consumers, but it would also increase student affinity and retention towards ASU, especially when students consider renewing their housing.
