Amend Wyndham Hill HOA Bylaws to Enable Backyard Hen Keeping and Community Gardens

The Issue

Establishing more sustainable practices in our community should be a priority. Currently, our Homeowners Association (HOA) bylaws prevent the keeping of backyard hens and the creation of community gardens. The owning of hens, up to four per household, would provide a source of fresh, healthy eggs, contribute to natural pest control and beneficially recycle food waste. Equally, community gardens would offer a space to grow seasonal produce, fostering greater self-sufficiency, environmental responsibility, and community engagement.

Recent findings show that residential community gardens can increase social cohesion, promote physical activity, and even improve residential property values (American Planning Association). Similarly, it is well-documented that backyard hens can lead to a reduction in waste and the production of high-quality eggs (Poultry Science Association).

Let's work together to modify our HOA bylaws, enabling sustainable practices that contribute positively to our community and environment. Take action today. Sign this petition to allow up to four hens on personal property and create community garden spaces.
