It is Saturday 23, May in Korea, 25th is public holiday commemorating Buddha's birthday, the Buddha taught us not to kill and we activists on front lines are against killing of any animals.
Saving dogs from slaughtering for the meat maybe new to you, unfortunately, Koreans eat dog meat. We are here to raise awareness both in and out of Korea. We can do only little but plan to make a small change in the center of city Seoul. 200 meters away from the main streets of Seoul, there is a dog meat market with a slaughterhouse in it.
We set up an altar right in front of a store selling fresh dog meat with live dogs in the cages. This was for the souls of those gone at the butchers knife. We marched through the busy market and back lanes of dog meat soup restaurants with Buddhist chanting to comfort the souls of those gone to the hot pots. It was quiet but loud enough to attract the eyes of shoppers. The butchers made some complaints but nothing violent happened as we were protected by the police.
It was an extremely hot day, the hotter it gets, the more dogs will be killed for the dog meat soup. We can't change the tradition of eating dog meat in Korea but we want this end this generation.
My special thanks to those joined us today on such a hot day. I am sure we've save a few lives today. “Saving one dog won’t change the world, but surely, the world will change for that one dog”
