A close relative was molested by a juvenile habitual sex offender, and due to his age, we were not aware of the danger. Shockingly, the perpetrator was our next-door neighbor. This tragic event has devastated our family and highlighted a critical gap in our state laws.
Due to juveniles not having to register as sex offenders, we did not know we were living next door to a monster.
Currently, there are insufficient measures in place to inform parents about juvenile sex offenders living nearby. This lack of transparency puts countless children at risk every day. According to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, 1 in 5 girls and 1 in 20 boys is a victim of child sexual abuse (source: NCMEC). We must take action now to prevent further harm.

We urge lawmakers to amend state law to require that information about juvenile sex offenders be made available to parents and guardians within their community. By doing so, we can better protect our children from these heinous crimes.
