Amend Existing Legislation to Strengthen Global Animal Rights and Pet Rights

The Issue

Owners rights are being violated under administrative processes. Sign this petition today to put a stop to it. Government does not own pets or property and cannot abuse legal systems. This doesn't have to be a huge change to make, it's a matter of amending policies, and enforcing bylaw officers jurisdiction but will make a difference in lives.

PET PROTECTION! AMEND LEGISLATION to RESPECT CHARTER OF RIGHTS, HUMAN RIGHTS & PETS RIGHTS. HOLD ANIMAL WELFARE ACCOUNTABLE FOR THEIR ACTIONS AND AMEND PAWS ACT.   No municipal bylaw can be against the Charter of Rights. No officer can enter a home without a warrant. If permits exist for exotic animals then they are allowable. Pets have rights to stay with their owners and are their personal and/or business property under federal law. Repeated efforts to get into a home is harrassment. When our fundamental rights are affected it's threatening to individuals and the Charter. When will it end? This is happening globally and there should be a global response and global change. * The advancement of privatization for shelters or animal care centres, would open up a newer industry, remove current controls and allow transparency. The government would save a lot of money in the long run by privatization and it would also remove the pet black market almost overnight. When in 5-10 years there are no pets  available to buy or adopt we won't say we told you so because we are saying so now. Animals have rights to not be ripped from their home and abandoned, killed, or sold by departments!! Ironically, that happened in Ontario the same week that it happened in VietNam tragically traumatizing animals and destroying families. We have Privacy Rights for a reason. The PAWS Act is misused and used an excuse for rules to be bent in the favour of self-fulfilling departments. *This opinion is mine and those who share it in signing the petition, and exclusive of affiliations.

The need for change in animal rights legislation is urgent. As a consequence of these developments, the lives of pets could be jeopardized. In the province of Ontario, Canada, having 3 million people, there were 10,000 advertisements for pets 8 years ago. Today, there are less than 50 ads! The industry is decimated from municipalities closing pet professionals, removing from homes and euthanizing or handing control to any dubious "rescues," who lose track of all lines, not knowing how to preserve the industry. This affects other aspects of the industry. Pet stores are affected, as are Vets, Pet Daycares, Retailers, just about anything pet based on animal rights as a fundamental. The focus seems to have shifted to controlling the industry, and market, rather than controlling animal populations while ignoring the rights of animals and professionals in the industry.

Animal welfare agencies are not focussing on dangerous breeds or fighting rings or the black market. They are creating a new black market where they are handing fake rescuers pets or entire lines of registered purebreds, ignoring any registrations. The rescuers home with no ethics and breed them. AW agencies are kill shelters and decimating all breeds, even mixed ones.

The system is flawed. The cost to run shelters goes up while the number of pets available goes down. The result is a systematic process that disdains breeders and outlets while escalating rescuers who get the overflow from shelters, but are merely switching ownership roles and sell them themselves. True rescuers are saving pets from euthanasia, but others are commercializing. This isn't just about breeding.  Discarding legal registry documents is illegal and a matter of course, effecting a centuries old industry. Privacy rights, property rights, and harrassment laws are also affected.

Laws are also outdated. Many animal lovers would love to have more than two dogs, and why can't they? Pet stores are in decline. Vet services are losing customers. At this rate in 10 years there could be no pets at all.

In light of these concerns, this petition is an urgent call to update current laws and present a new one to ensure that real animal rights are consistent with Animal Rights globally and Charter of Rights, Human Rights. We wish to ensure that the rights of pet owners and business owners are protected, allowing animals the security of staying in their homes. Revision of public relation strategies is necessary to portray breeders fairly.

Globally, the similarities in outward control of the industry in procedures that are shared no matter what country's government is, with the rights of animals and their caregivers being violated. Animals are taken for administrative or flimsy reasons and accusations, and people billed exorbitant amounts to get their animals back as governments put them in cages on filthy floors. That is happening in many countries.

While laboratories are still allowed to buy Macaques by the thousands for antiquated testing, with their own brand of cruelty.

Moreover, the legislation ought to safeguard pets from being seized by governments, demanding greater accountability and transparency. The welfare of animals must remain our priority, and reasonable pet industry management is integral to this effort. It's time to put animals and their rightful caregivers first. We derive strength from our collective voice. Sign this petition to champion amendments in the legislation that ensure these important changes.
