Amend Child Support Payment Laws for Fairness

Amend Child Support Payment Laws for Fairness
The issue
For five long years, I endured a situation that no paying parent should face. Despite paying child support consistently, the receiving parent used it as leverage, essentially blackmailing me with the threat of limiting my access to my children if I didn't meet their financial demands. Repeatedly, I contacted the Child Support Agency (CSA) to help me switch from private payments to agency-collected payments, hoping to ensure transparency and fairness. Unfortunately, I was told each time that only the receiving parent had the power to make this change. As a result, I ended up paying nearly three times what I should have been paying over those years.
By December 2024, I had reached a breaking point and made the difficult decision to stop my payments to force a switch to the agency system. This cost me access to my children for 6 months. This is not a choice any parent should have to make. The current laws grant too much control to the receiving parent, leaving the paying parent vulnerable to manipulation and financial abuse. It is imperative that both parties have equal power in deciding the method of payment to prevent such disparities and injustices.
Child support is meant to ensure the child’s well-being, not to serve as a bargaining chip or a tool for coercion. The law must evolve to reflect this principle, ensuring that all child support payments are handled fairly and transparently.
Therefore, I urge legislators to amend the current child support payment laws. Both paying and receiving parents should have an equal say in choosing between private and agency-collected payments. This change is necessary to protect the interests of both parents and, more importantly, to secure the best possible conditions for the children involved.
Sign this petition to stand in solidarity with parents everywhere, pushing for a system that is just and equitable for all parties involved. By demanding this legislative change, we can help ensure that child support fulfills its intended purpose: supporting the future of our children.
