Whether it was liking transphobic tweets or accusing trans women of being predators, JK Rowling has made her stance on the trans community clear. Her new book, about a cis man cross dressing also happens to be the main antagonist of the story, as he kills and attacks women throughout the story. 

There are many problematic elements with her novel. The first being that she’s writing about a man, who uses cross dressing as a way to prey on women. This implies that trans people aren’t actually trans but doing it for attention, or in this case, to prey on women.

The second being that he’s cis, not trans. This implies that trans people don’t dress as the gender they identify with because of reasons such as dysphoria, but instead to take advantage of society, (i.e use cross dressing as a disguise to get away with crimes). 

Trans representation has a history of being villainized in media. TV sources such as Pretty Little Liars and Psycho have used similar plot lines in the past. This causes misinformation to be spread and even helped form the idea that trans people are predators, which is a thought Rowling has clearly aligned herself with.

This is not a matter of free speech. This is a matter of hate speech. Which is why Amazon NEEDS to take action and take her book down! 

Trans people are more likely to attempt suicide, more likely to self harm and more likely to get murdered and the reason is for transphobic ideas like this. JK Rowling has a large audience and encouraging these beliefs will incite even more violence on one of the most vulnerable minorities globally.
