Hello Plastic-free Family-
I hope this update finds you all doing well and making your way through these crazy times.
Introducing UNWRAPPED
The response I got to my request for good packaging examples from you all was AMAZING! I am still working my way through so many of the great responses and photos you sent. We got so many cool products and ideas, I recruited an editor friend to help me organize them all in a comprehensive newsletter we are calling UNWRAPPED. If you want to get the full eco packaging wrap-up and discount codes to some of the brands covered, you can sign up for UNWRAPPED here: http://eepurl.com/EqTQD
Goodbye Plastic Clamshells!
For this week though, I wanted to share out one of my favorite solutions sent to me from Linda Fritz from Sun Sugar Farms. As a sustainable farmer, Linda hated putting her cherry tomatoes in plastic containers to sell to the local major supermarket chain in Cincinnati. She researched and found that virtually no recycling centers will recycle that plastic because there are no buyers. (Same situation where I live.)
When Linda couldn't find a cost-effective alternative with a lid, she went ahead created one. These containers are cost-competitive in Amazon volumes and are the same dimensions as the current plastic clamshells that hold berries, tomatoes and other produce and being used by small and medium size growers across the USA and Canada. You can read more and watch a fun video at their site here: https://sustainableproducecontainer.com/
Linda's containers even made it to the Superbowl!
What an uplifting story of someone who saw a problem with the plastic status quo and sought to fix it. Let's help her spread the word.
Please send along more great ideas whether it's your own product or something you received from a brand you trust. Email plastics@fondgroup.com
We are nearing 600,000 signatures so please keep up the good work!
Amazon might have their hands full right now but we aren't forgetting about our goal here. It's time to give us the choice to refuse online plastic.
Have a great week!
