Hello fellow plastic-free packaging supporters. A quick note of thanks for all your help spreading the word on this petition as well as a couple updates.
1. We hit 250,000 signatures this week and could not have done that without all of your help and support!! Thank you for believing that we can make headway with the plastic crisis by cutting off some of the largest sources of excess and uneccessary plastic. We hope that the feasibility of this proposal and its win-win outcome propel this proposal into actionable change with major shippers like Amazon.
2. Local Pilot - I've requested an audience with our current local Congressman, Lee Zeldin, to determine the feasibility of running a pilot program to implement a required 'plastic-free' option at Amazon checkout for residents on Long Island. As an island eco-system with limited resources for managing waste, this would be a great test market to fine tune the adjustment to Amazon's fulfillment processes and measure the impact. I will report back on how that meeting goes and whether the Congressman is receptive to exploring a pilot with the company. If there are other communities where you suggest we propose a pilot, please feel free to forward those.
3. Packaging Proposal - I am collecting input from established eco-packaging suppliers to inform a feasible execution plan for Amazon to adjust its fulfillment process. The ideal proposal would be supplier-agnostic but would provide a great blueprint for how to implement our requested changes in Amazon fulfillment centers as this is where we anticipate the biggest pushback. We are currently seeking additional input from operational experts who could assist with a warehouse transition from offering plastic packaging to plastic-free.
If you have suggestions or would like to propose an expert, please email info@fondgroup.com or reply to this message.
Please continue to share the petition and let's set our sights on hitting 500,000 signatures as soon as possible!
Thank you,
Nicole Delma
