Allow wheelchairs in emergency ambulances

The Issue

I am a full-time wheelchair user, and my life took an alarming turn when I discovered that I couldn't bring my wheelchair with me in an emergency ambulance. This has left me stranded, unable to receive timely medical attention, simply because I was isolated with no one to bring my chair along. Unfortunately, my story is not unique.

Many wheelchair users face similar challenges, turning an already stressful medical emergency into a logistical nightmare. Losing the independence of our mobility during an emergency shouldn't be an added burden to an already vulnerable situation. For many of us, our wheelchair is not simply a convenience; it's the key to maintaining dignity and autonomy.

Emergency services need to adapt to the needs of wheelchair users, ensuring that we can continue to care for ourselves as we make the urgent journey to receive care. To facilitate this, ambulances can be equipped with the necessary facilities to accommodate wheelchairs safely, or protocols can be established for prompt retrieval and transportation of our chairs.

It is crucial that policymakers take immediate steps to ensure that emergency services accommodate wheelchair users inclusively and compassionately. Accessible healthcare must be a priority, especially during emergencies. Your support in signing this petition can drive necessary changes in regulations and ambulance services, making a world of difference for wheelchair users like myself. Please sign and advocate for a more inclusive healthcare system.
