Allow veterans to play recreational badminton tournaments
The Issue
I recently faced an unexpected and embarrassing situation when a recreational badminton tournament, where family and friends jointly arranged funds and prizes, was abruptly banned. This was done without prior notice or the opportunity to make necessary modifications. To make matters worse, even after being canceled, the poster continued to be circulated, causing unnecessary embarrassment for a woman like me.
The tournament was designed to be a joyful social event, where badminton veterans from our community could come together and celebrate our shared love for the sport. It was not intended for profit, but purely for recreation and the strengthening of social bonds. Yet, the Badminton Association of India intervened, imposing restrictions that overshadow the spirit of community and togetherness.
It is crucial to address that recreational badminton tournaments foster social interaction and well-being among veterans, who are registered players but also humans deserving to participate in stress-free social events. These gatherings are essential for maintaining mental and physical health, offering a platform where veterans can enjoy, compete lightly, and cherish the game they love.
I urge the Badminton Association of India to reconsider their stance on recreational tournaments. By allowing these events to proceed without unnecessary interference, particularly when they are non-profit and community-driven, we can promote a spirit of unity and engagement among badminton enthusiasts.
This petition aims to bring attention to the importance of allowing badminton veterans to freely participate in recreational tournaments, reinforcing our right to enjoy sports without undue constraints. Join me in signing this petition to encourage the Badminton Association of India to support and nurture the recreational spirit of badminton veterans across the country.
