Allow TX State Prisoner to Hug his Terminally Ill Mother

The Issue

Miguel Flores, incarcerated at McConnell Unit, is trying desperately to get permission for a contact visit with his mother Paulina. Paulina is dying of cancer, and she does not have much time left.  She is down to 98 lbs and is very weak.  Paulina just wants to be able to hug her son one last time before passing.

This should be a no-brainer for the prison, but they have denied her request.  It shocks the conscience.

Miguel is in ad seg, which is the reason the TDCJ uses to deny their contact visit.  However, Miguel has been case free for over two years, and graduated in 2017 from the Mental Health Division Program, which demonstrates his good effort to be released from ad seg.  Miguel has written the warden, chaplain, sergeants, lieutenants, and majors to help him have a contact visit, with no results.  He has even been denied phone requests to check on his mother.

There is no legitimate public safety reason why the McConnell Unit has denied Miguel and Paulina's request for a contact visit.  This is something the prison can make happen, it's just an issue they have cruelly chosen to dismiss.  Let's reach out to elected officials and ask that they hold the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) accountable to the people of TX.

Sign the petition to let the TDCJ know that you support Miguel Flores TDC#2084651 and his mother, Paulina, having a contact visit, and this matter is urgent!

This petition will be exponentially effective if you take the extra step, by sending emails and making phone calls to TX state elected officials to ask for their support on the issue.

“Hello, I’m calling to demand a contact visit for Miguel Flores TDC#2084651 with his mother who is dying from terminal cancer. Miguel and Paulina are being denied a contact visit by McConnell Unit due to his security level. An exception must be made so this mother and son can have a final hug. To deny them otherwise would be cruel.  Paulina is deteriorating rapidly, so please act urgently to pressure the TDCJ to grant their contact visit."
