AUC students rely on the shuttle to the local grocery store Since Walmart on MLK has been temporarily closed with an expected reopening date of 6-8 months from now, AUC students don’t have access to a grocery store through the shuttle. There has been no announcement of a new local grocery store that the AUC shuttle will introduce/incorporate. The lack of a shuttle affects the AUC’s first-year population and students who do not have a car. This is not only an issue of food access; Walmart has a pharmacy that students use to fill medications. 

We ask to allow the shuttle to run to Kroger on Cascade road, located only 2.3 miles from the Walmart on MLK or another grocery store. We ask that the shuttle communicates better with the AUC community and has a correct, updated, and effective app. This will help ensure students safety. We ask that the communication of the shuttle’s new stop surrounding Kroger is concise amongst the AUC by using the already established Spelalert and Morehouse/Clark institution-wide communication method. The lack of a grocery store affects the wellness of students. The AUC must frame food access as right for students.
