Allow the revote on the use of Instant FFM in Banjo-Kazooie Speedruns!
The Issue
In the Banjo-Kazooie speedrun scene, there have been a multitude of glitches and exploits adapted to complete the game more quickly. One of these is a glitch called Furnace Fun Moves (FFM), which allows you to essentially transfer the moves from one file to a clean file preceding your speedrun.
The process of setting up this glitch includes having a completed file up to Furnace Fun without completing it. Creating this file takes, on average, about two hours—which is a lot. It’s a one-time setup to create the file, but there’s also another step before every run where you have to spend an additional five minutes setting it up.
This means that 12 attempted runs past Mumbo’s Mountain equate to an entire hour of preparation that is irrelevant to the actual speedrun time. For many new and existing runners, this has become an annoyance, and they would like to revisit the idea of an instantaneous way to access FFM.
This would involve what is called a ROM hack—a modified version of the vanilla game that allows you to automatically start an empty file with the FFM glitch activated, without setting up an FFM file or completing the five-minute setup each run. This version is unofficial but is argued to be original enough to run competitively.
This petition is designed to gather interest in a revote on the use of this ROM hack to make Banjo-Kazooie speedrunners’ lives easier. If you are interested in a revote, regardless of your standpoint, I urge you to sign this petition so we can uphold the basic idea of a democratic, community-driven vote.
