Allow student access to mobile devices during free-time in Alabama schools.

Allow student access to mobile devices during free-time in Alabama schools.
The Issue
My social life and communication with my friends rely heavily on the use of my cellular device. As a dedicated student, I have always prioritized my academic responsibilities, ensuring all assignments are completed diligently. Yet, there are moments when I've fulfilled my schoolwork obligations or have been granted free time by my teachers or the school when I'm not allowed to access my mobile device.
This restriction impacts not just my ability to stay connected with friends but also my means of accessing educational resources and creative outlets that my phone provides. Numerous studies, such as one conducted by the Pew Research Center, highlight the importance of digital communication in maintaining interpersonal relationships among teenagers. By denying access to mobile devices, the school inadvertently hinders these necessary social interactions.
Moreover, access to mobile devices can be beneficial in various educational contexts. For instance, when assignments are completed early, students can utilize apps and online resources for further learning or engage in educational games that develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
I propose a solution where students, who have consistently demonstrated responsibility by completing assignments, be allowed monitored access to their mobile devices during designated free-times. This policy would not only enhance our social connections but also encourage responsible usage and provide opportunities for self-directed learning.
Please sign this petition to help implement this balanced approach, which acknowledges both educational commitments and the importance of social connectivity for students in their free time.
