The Issue

Petition Description:

Attention To:

Sport Singapore (SportSG), People’s Association (PA), Housing & Development Board (HDB), and all Singapore Town Councils

Background

Pickleball has become one of Singapore’s fastest-growing community sports. It is fun, inclusive, and suitable for people of all ages — especially seniors and families who value active, healthy lifestyles.

However, many Town Councils currently restrict pickleball play at HDB neighbourhood multi-purpose courts to between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m.

These limited hours make it difficult for working adults and early risers to enjoy the game — particularly on weekends and public holidays when most residents are free.

Our Request

We, the undersigned residents and pickleball enthusiasts from across Singapore, respectfully request that:

👉 Town Councils extend the allowable playing hours to 8 a.m.–9 p.m. at HDB neighbourhood courts.

      We believe this balanced schedule allows morning play while still maintaining respect for nearby residents’ rest times.

Reasons for the Request

1)  💪Promotes Health and Active Aging – Pickleball fosters regular exercise and social connection among seniors, youths, and families. It supports an active “Blue Zone” lifestyle, enhancing agility, balance, and overall well-being. By encouraging seniors to stay physically and socially engaged, pickleball can contribute to improved public health outcomes and help reduce national healthcare costs in the long term.

2) ☀️ Cooler Morning Temperatures – Playing from 8 a.m. helps avoid the mid-day heat, improving safety and comfort.

3)  🔇 Low Noise Solutions Exist – “Quiet paddles” and “low-noise balls” can greatly reduce sound impact.

4)  🕊️ Community Harmony – Earlier hours on weekends benefit active residents without compromising peaceful living.

5)  🏓 Alternative Pickleball Venues – Please expedite provision of alternative pickleball venues that are comfortable, convenient and conducive; before  slam stop existing play.

Our Commitment

We fully support the use of quiet equipment and considerate behaviour to keep pickleball enjoyable and neighbour-friendly.

This petition aims not to oppose existing regulations, but to collaborate with Town Councils for a more inclusive and health-promoting neighbourhood sports environment.

We respectfully urge:

  • Town Councils and SportSG to review and harmonize court-use guidelines;
  • A pilot implementation of 8 a.m.–9 p.m. playtime in selected estates (e.g., weekend mornings first);
  • Public feedback after the pilot to confirm that noise remains manageable.

Together, let’s make Singapore a more active and caring nation — one game at a time. 🏓SG
