Let Dog Parents Stay with Their Pets in Critical Care

As dog parents, we share a deep emotional bond with our pets. They rely on us for love, comfort, and security, especially in distressing situations like medical emergencies. However, many veterinary hospitals do not allow even one dog parent to stay with their pet in critical care units.

Dogs are highly sensitive animals that experience stress and fear when separated from their trusted humans. Studies show that a familiar presence can help lower their anxiety, stabilize their vital signs, and improve their response to treatment. Just like in human healthcare, emotional support plays a crucial role in healing.

We respectfully urge all veterinary hospitals and clinics to implement a policy allowing at least one dog parent to be present in critical care units, where medically feasible. This simple change can significantly improve a pet’s well-being and ensure they receive the best possible care in a calm and stress-free environment.

Additionally, we request that hospitals do not impose additional charges or special room fees for allowing a pet parent to be present. This is a matter of compassion and care, not a privilege that should come at an extra cost. Every dog deserves to feel safe during treatment, regardless of their owner’s financial situation.
