The Issue

Like many technology users, I believe in the freedom of choice—especially when it comes to personal devices. I am concerned about recent changes that limit the ability to create offline accounts and force users towards Windows 11, against their preference. I am writing this today because I believe many share this sentiment, where a corporation's control over personal purchases and decisions should be limited.

Microsoft has recently enforced policies that make it difficult for users to use their software as they see fit. This includes not allowing offline account creation, which previously allowed users to maintain greater privacy and control over their devices. Furthermore, users are experiencing persistent prompts and nudges to upgrade to Windows 11, disrupting their experience and forcing a transition that they may not be prepared for or interested in.

The freedom to choose which operating system to use, without being compelled towards a specific version, is fundamental. This limits not only our choices as consumers but also challenges our rights to privacy and autonomy over the technology and tools we choose to use every day.

We urge Microsoft to provide users with an option to create accounts offline, and to end the compulsory transition to Windows 11. Implementing these changes would empower users, respect our choices, and align with the values of user satisfaction and respect for privacy that many customers cherish.

By signing this petition, you can show Microsoft that these concerns are shared by many, and that there is a clear demand for the freedom to choose how we use our devices. Let us stand together for our right to privacy and autonomy in our technology usage. Please join me in signing this petition to let our voices be heard.
