Today we had a scheduled call with leadership from Greenlawn Cemetery regarding the cemetery decoration guidelines and the concerns so many of you have shared.
Unfortunately, the call resulted in no resolution.
From the very beginning, they made it clear they intend to keep the current policy in place. There was no meaningful discussion about negotiating or revising the guidelines. Instead of focusing on the families and the impact this policy is having, much of the conversation shifted toward trying to make this issue “go away.”
We were told their attorneys would be on the call , they were not.
The only change they agreed to put in writing is that solar lights are permitted if placed inside a vase. While that clarification matters, it does not address the broader concerns families have raised about reasonable, non-hazardous decorations.
One statement stood out. Nick said, and I quote:
“We are prepared to accept the consequences from you and the folks you have.”
If that is truly their position, then we will continue to advocate respectfully, persistently, and publicly for fair and compassionate guidelines.
I will now be escalating this matter to Brad Bishop, Director of Operations.
This petition is not about conflict. It is about families being allowed small, meaningful expressions of love at their loved ones’ resting place.
