Over the weekend, hundreds of you tweeted at our Health Ministers and asked them fast-track licensing processes for international nurses. We are grateful for your support. We also had some great media coverage in the Guardian. With all this momentum, the politicians will have to listen to us.
Currently the “objective structured clinical exam” only takes place in Adelaide with a capacity of 40 participants - it is ridiculous that hundreds of able and eager nurses are being denied the opportunity to serve the community because of a bureaucratic roadblock.
Melbourne nurses are exhausted and NSW hospitals are preparing for their busiest period during the pandemic as modelings predict they are projected to become “technically overwhelmed” in October.
We need Ministers to urgently devise examination alternatives to ease the burden on Australia’s healthcare workers
