Allow for seniors and disabled to buy basic necessities at local markets with ease.

The Issue

COVID-19, commonly known as the Corona Virus, has caused widespread fear throughout the country. Therefore, numerous markets have been selling out of groceries, toiletries, and other basic necessities. Numerous people have been hoarding these essentials and lines to enter markets stretch for numerous blocks. This has to change. The elderly population and disabled has been struggling to gain access to basic necessities due to excessive hoarding. Additionally, lines to enter these markets are too long. The lengthy lines are physically strenuous due to numerous factors such as weather and enduring times.

In order to resolve this conflict, I propose that markets should allocate specific times of the day to accommodate individuals including seniors (65+) and disabled to buy their own groceries and toiletries. Additionally, markets should reserve groceries and other necessities for them. For example, it would be beneficial for markets to open for an hour daily from 8 am-9 am just for seniors and disabled. It is crucial to help and protect senior citizens and handicapped as they are the most vulnerable to COVID-19. Although we are all susceptible to this virus, as a community, we must help those who are in a disadvantaged situation and prevent further cases of COVID-19 by allowing those prone to the virus to remain healthy. Our goal is to reach the owners of local markets such as Costco, Vons, Ralphs, Safeway, Trader Joes, etc. to open an hour daily for senior citizens and disabled individuals. Please join me to spread this awareness by sharing this with your community so that it would reach the owners of local supermarkets. Thank you.
