Allow dual citizens to run for the presidency in Tunisia.

Allow dual citizens to run for the presidency in Tunisia.
Das Problem
Tunisia is a nation of openness and global talent. Countless Tunisians hold dual citizenship due to family ties, professional activities, or study abroad, and yet continue to make significant contributions in terms of expertise, investment, and hope for their homeland.
However, these Tunisian citizens are currently excluded from holding the highest office simply because they possess more than one passport. This rule does not protect Tunisia — it limits it. We call for equal rights for all Tunisians to serve their country in meaningful capacities.
Changes in Tunisian legislation could be the foundation for a stronger sense of unity and for advancing the values of democracy and fairness. Excluding qualified and committed individuals from leadership roles weakens our country’s potential and suppresses the diversity of ideas needed to thrive in a globalized world.
According to data from the National Institute of Statistics, it was reported in 2021 that approximately 10% of the Tunisian population lives abroad, many of whom hold dual citizenship and maintain strong ties to Tunisia. It is essential to welcome these citizens back into the political process and give them the opportunity to actively participate in shaping Tunisia’s future.
By removing this restriction, Tunisia would not only signal its readiness to open itself to all its citizens but also take real steps toward a more inclusive society. This would send a powerful message to the international community that Tunisia sees diversity as a strength and is willing to break down prejudice.
We appeal to Tunisian lawmakers to initiate this process of change and create the conditions for dual citizens to participate in presidential elections. Together, we can ensure that all voices are heard and that talent beyond national borders has the opportunity to lead our beloved country.
Please sign this petition to promote fair and equal rights for all Tunisians.
